OPENING SPEECH OF THE MINISTRY OF INDUSTRY

Vietnam Oil & Gas Expo 2007, Vietnam Electricity Expo 2006

12-14 October, 2006, HIECC, Hochminh City, Vietnam

 

Distinguished Guests, Ladies & Gentlemen,

 

First of all, on behalf of the Ministry of Industry of Vietnam, I warmly welcome all distinguished guests and participants to the Vietnam Oil& Gas, Vietnam Electricity Expo 2006.

 

As far as the Oil &Gas sector is concerned, after the issuance of the Law on Foreign Investment in Vietnam and the decision NO.15/NQ-TU dated July 7,1988 of the Party's Politibureau on the Development Strategy of Vietnam's Oil &Gas sector, the exploration and production of Oil &Gas in the country have been rapidly progressing and gaining remarkable achievements-

 

Currently, all exploration contracts both at home and abroad are being executed as scheduled-The output of the Oil & Gas equivalent in the first 9 months achieved l8.64 mil tons, about 96.9% of the output of the same period of last year.

 

Regarding the power sector , the stable operation of power plants in the country in the 3rd quarter and first 9 months of 2006 has satisfied the demand for electricity for both industrial purposes-The electricity output in Sep 2006 was 4.99 bil KWh and the output in the first 9 months of 2006 achieved 4379 bil KWh.

 

As you know, in Vietnam the Oil &Gas sector and power sector are closely linked and both sectors play an important role in the country's economic development. In this regard, the Ministry of Industry is always ready to provide all necessary guidance to ensure the implementation of key, large- scale projects in the country including urgent power source projects and some others like Dung quat Refinery, Ca mau Gas-Power-Fertilizer Complex, Son La Hydro Power Plant etc.

 

Ladies &Gentlemen, with the participation of l15 companies from 23 foreign countries & territories in the Vietnam Oil & Gas, Electricity Expo 2006, this Expo is showing you great interest in the further development of the Oil &Gas and Electricity sectors in Vietnam-

 

On behalf of the Ministry of Industry ,I wish to praise the Oil &Gas and Electricity sectors of Vietnam for their efforts over the past year and do hope that these 2 sectors will continue to gain more achievement in the coming time.

 

In closing ,I wish this Expo a great success.  I wish you ail good health and happiness.

Distinguished Guests, Ladies & Gentlemen,

 

On behalf of PETROVIETNAM, I sincerely thank all distinguished guests for your presence at the Opening Ceremony of the Vietnam Oil & Gas 2006 and Vietnam Electricity Expo 2006.

 

Being the National Oil &Gas Corporation of Vietnam, PetroVietnam is playing an extremely important role in the country's economic development. To accomplish the task assigned by the State, the National Oil &Gas Corporation of Vietnam has worked out the following development strategy to 2015 and orientation toward 2025:

 

"Developing the Vietnam petroleum industry into a pivotal technical- economic sector in the economic development strategy of the country in the coming decades, building a fully integrated petroleum industry involved in a wide spectrum of petroleum activities from exploration, production, processing, storage, distribution, service and import-export, fostering exploration-production activities, effective and rational use of the national petroleum resources, step by step expanding petroleum activities abroad, speeding up the overseas petroleum production to supplement the shortage of domestic production, actively building petrochemical &refining and natural gas usage industry, ensuring the national energy security, diversifying modes of investment and business in the petroleum sector ,step by step creating and developing a competitive petroleum market, expanding and pushing up types of petroleum services, effectively and rapidly developing the petroleum sector along with ensuring the defense security, ensuring the national sovereignty, protecting natural resources and ecological environment and energy saving for sustainable development of the country. Building a sound petroleum group undertaking multi-businesses both at home and abroad."

 

Ladies and Gentlemen, to take the advantage of the int'l cooperation in terms of investment capital, modern technology for the further development of the Vietnam Oil &Gas sector, the National Oil &Gas Corporation of Vietnam, in collaboration with CP Exhibition Hong Kong & VCCI EXPO, organize the Vietnam Oil & Gas, Vietnam Electricity EXPO 2006.  The participation in this Expo of 115 companies from 23 foreign countries is the evidence of your great interest in the Oil & Gas, Electricity sectors of Vietnam.

Distinguished guests Ladies and Gentlemen

 

First of all, on behalf of the Electricity of Vietnam, I would like to send our warmest greetings and wish you all good health. I would also like to thank the CP Exhibition Hong Kong and Vietnam Exhibition, Conference and Advertisement Joint Stock Company under Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry for organizing Vietnam Electricity Expo 2006. This is an opportunity for companies and enterprises operating in Power industry to meet, exchange experiences and learn about products and technologies. For the Power Industry, this is an     opportunity for EVN to learn new technologies, renovation of management and to and counterparts who want to participate in the cause of power development serving the national economy.

 

Ladies and Gentlemen, further to the success of the same events of previous years, Electricity Expo 2006 enables EVN to come closer to the power industries in other countries. The Power Industry of Vietnam has been developing its cooperation with power utilities, suppliers, consultants and investors in the region and in the world.

 

To meet the power demand for the national economy, every year, EVN need an investment of about 2J billion USD for developing both power generation and network.

 

I hope that after the event of the Vietnam Electricity Expo 2006 this time, those who operate in power industry will enhance their understanding of the Power Industry in Vietnam and therefore, actively participate in the power development.
